Ruth Petre

Experience

After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in English and Art, Ruth moved firstly to a wedding and portrait studio in her home town of Christchurch, New Zealand before becoming a staff photographer with local newspapers The Christchurch Star, and the Christchurch Press. Named “Young Photographer of the Year” by the New Zealand National Community Newspapers Association in 1993, she was also nominated for the Sir Edmund Hillary Commission’s Women’s Awards in 1994 for the Pacific Photographic Award.

Her desire to broaden her horizons both professionally and personally took Ruth firstly to Europe then the United States from 1995 – 1999 where she continued to work in photography – firstly in theme parks, then with cruise ships throughout the Caribbean and Alaska.

Incorporating her background in photojournalism and studio photography, and her love of art and painting, she offers a relaxed and natural photography service, with an eye for colour and detail from her fine arts background. She still paints  – creating large acrylic canvases full of colour and texture – and it is this love of colour and design that led to the name of her photography business.

Ruth works from her home studio in Coomera, Queensland, where she lives with husband Mark and two sons.

“Great photographs can bring to life your memories and moments. I love my work and am always looking for beauty and uniqueness in unexpected moments and places. My work is spontaneous and real, capturing quickly and unobtrusively the essence of an emotion, the humour in an expression, an eyecatching colour or texture, a fleeting moment in time”.
